Adrian Neville is an established teacher and performer of the Classical Guitar. He has previously taught at Kingston University and currently teaches at Winchester Collage and St Swithun’s school Winchester. Adrian also managed the Southampton Classical Guitar Centre for many years. His recitals have included the Wigmore Hall, Edinburgh Festival and locally at the Turner Sims concert hall in Southampton. There have been numerous appearances on National television. Both his teaching and performing repertoire encompass music from the 16th century to the present day.

The tuition provided can be structured to include preparation for grade and diploma exams. A more leisurely approach is offered to those students seeking an introduction to the guitar or the pursuit of a worthwhile pastime.

  Lesson Content

The early lessons will focus on establishing good posture and technique by way of introducing an imaginative group of technical exercises and studies. The building of a varied repertoire is encouraged at an early stage and as the student progresses, the emphasis can focus more on phrasing and acquiring good tone production.


Composing for the Guitar

Advice, encouragement and guidance are provided for those students wishing to compose for the instrument.
  Repertoire Available

Studies and pieces of an appropriate nature and grade are suggested and students are also at liberty to choose there own material. The scope of repertoire available is vast and includes lute music from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, transcriptions from the same period, 19th century compositions by Aguado, Carcassi, Carulli, Sor and Tarraga, transcriptions by composers such as Albeniz and Granardos, 20th Century guitar music by Villa Lobos, Torroba, Ponce, Berkeley, Lauro, Barrios etc and indeed music up to the present day. A selection of Blues and Flamenco music is also offered.
